Tokyo 2020-friendly Koike re-elected, public dubious about Games

Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike

Yuriko Koike was re-elected as Governor of Tokyo at the weekend, beating 21 challengers including at least two who were opposed to the Olympics taking place in the city next year.

Koike was far ahead of her rivals, securing 3.66 million votes, representing 60 per cent of the total vote. She pledged to continue working with the Tokyo Olympics organisers and the International Olympic Committee to make sure the Games go ahead. This is despite some public doubt about the chances of the Olympics going ahead, which has been detected in recent polls by news organisations.
