The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (OCOG) has confirmed the staging of last year’s postponed events cost ¥1.423.8tn (€9.91bn/$10.45bn), nearly double the amount originally proposed when the Japanese capital bid for the Games.

Tokyo was awarded the 2020 Games in September 2013 and at the time was planning expenditure of ¥734bn. The OCOG has today (Tuesday) published a final report detailing its revenues and expenditures and the overall financial results of the Tokyo 2020 Games, which were eventually held last year from July 23 to August 8 and August 24 to September 5, respectively, due to Covid-19.
