Seoul will look to bid for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but will not seek to rekindle a proposal put forward for the 2032 Games involving North Korean capital Pyongyang, while Latvia has looked to resume a prior connection with Sweden to land the 2030 Winter Games.

The 2032 Games bid was part of a wider strategy aimed at enhancing relations between the two Koreas, but Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said that while a few events could be held in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) or Pyongyang if relations improved enough by that time, the North Korean capital would not formally be involved in its 2036 planning.
