Football's world governing body Fifa has halted all international matches in Russia and barred the Russian team from competing under its own name and flag, in response to the war in Ukraine.

Fifa's moves are among a wave of sanctions imposed on Russian sport in response to the crisis. These continued over the weekend, with European football's governing body Uefa reported to be in the process of terminating a major sponsorship agreement with Russian state-owned energy firm Gazprom. Russian businessman Roman Abramovich relinquished his control of English Premier League club Chelsea, and the international ski federation (FIS) halted World Cup events in Russia.
