Fifa, football’s global governing body, has announced that it is to undertake further testing of Hawk-Eye goal-line technology at this year’s Confederations Cup and Under-20 World Cup national team tournaments, as well as its Club World Cup competition.

Hawk-Eye will serve as the official video assistant referees (VAR) provider at each event, with refereeing officials able to use the technology to help make decisions regarding goal-line incidents.

Fifa will examine how the use of Hawk-Eye impacts on the behaviour of players and referees, as well as how fans in the stadium and television viewers respond to the VAR system.

Fifa previously trialled Hawk-Eye at last year’s Club World Cup in Japan, while tests have also taken place in a number of national team friendly games.
