Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre will play host to the US Darts Masters, part of the World Series of Darts tour, in 2020.
The event, held on June 5-6, will mark the debut of top-class darts at the iconic venue as the Professional Darts Corporation, the promoter behind the World Series of Darts, continues its attempts to develop the sport in the US market. The US Darts Masters has been held in Las Vegas since its inaugural edition in 2017.
The event is the first to be confirmed for the 2020 World Series of Darts calendar, with a further five stages expected to be announced ahead of the finals in Salzburg in September.
The North American Championship, a tournament for American and Canadian competitors, will be held concurrently with the US Darts Masters, taking place during the afternoon sessions before the main event in the evenings. The winner of that competition will go on to compete win the World Championship at the end of 2020.
The World Series of Darts has been used by the PDC to take darts to new territories. While the sport enjoys strong popularity in the UK and in parts of Europe – Belgium and the Netherlands in particular – it has struggled for exposure in other regions. Australia, China and the United Arab Emirates have all joined the US in hosting World Series of Darts events in recent years.
As part of its wider engagement push, the PDC appointed the Lagardère Sports agency earlier this year to revamp its digital output, among other remits.
