Wales to bid for 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens

Rugby World Cup Sevens champions Wales has announced a bid to host the event in 2018.

If successful, the bid backed by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), the Welsh government and Cardiff city council would make Wales the first British country to host the competition since the first tournament in 1993, which was held at Scotland’s Murrayfield.

The WRU plans to host the event at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, with some matches being played at the Cardiff City Stadium.

France, Singapore and the United States are also reported to be interested in hosting the event.
