UK sanctions hit Abramovich’s Chelsea sale plans

Roman Abramovich’s efforts to sell English Premier League club Chelsea have effectively been suspended after the UK Government today (Thursday) named him as one of seven Russian oligarchs added to its list of financial sanctions targets amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced a full asset freeze and travel ban on seven of Russia’s wealthiest and most influential oligarchs, whose business empires, wealth and connections are said to be closely associated with the Kremlin.
