The Italian senate has approved legislation that would allow Italy’s Lega Serie A to extend its existing domestic broadcast rights deals with DAZN and Sky Italia for two more seasons, pending approval from the two subscription broadcasters.

A proposal presented by Claudio Lotito, the Italian politician and president of Lazio, has been included in the ‘Milleproroghe’ decree. This states that, “where there are economic reasons”, sports broadcast rights contracts currently in effect “may be extended for the necessary time but nevertheless not beyond the total duration of five years”.
