Octagon strikes deal for new WTA event in Istanbul

International sports marketing agency Octagon has completed a deal with the Turkish Tennis Federation to stage a newly created WTA event in Istanbul, Turkey.

The new, to-be-named event will join the 2020 WTA Tour schedule, and be held April 20-26 at the Turkish Tennis Federation Tennis Center. The agreement follows a large-scale renovation of that facility, including the installation of all-new clay courts and tournament infrastructure.

Istanbul has an established history with the WTA, having held a variety of events in prior years including season-ending WTA Championships in 2011-13.

“Istanbul has been home to many WTA events and we are pleased to continue the tradition of hosting the world’s best tennis players as embark on an exciting new season,” said Steve Simon, WTA chairman and chief executive.

In addition to this new event, Octagon owns or operates tennis events in more than 10 different countries, and represents more than 70 tennis personalities.
