North American basketball league the NBA has confirmed that the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Hornets will play two pre-season matches during this year's edition of its Global Games China series, which will for the first time feature a game in Shenzhen.
The city of Shenzhen will stage its first-ever NBA match on October 11 when the Clippers face off against the Hornets at the Shenzhen Universiade Centre. The teams will face each other in a rematch at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai three days later on October 14.
This year’s NBA Global Games China will also feature a variety of off-court activities such as the NBA Care community programmes which have been designed to help increase Chinese interest in the league.
The series will be supported by promoters AEG Live Asia and the iRENA Group, as well as a number of marketing and merchandising partners. Games will be broadcast around the world on numerous television channels and will also be streamed live via various digital and social media platforms.
“Basketball is more popular than ever, and Global Games China 2015 is part of our ongoing commitment to growing the game in the world's most populous nation,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said. “These games will not only bring the excitement of NBA action directly to Chinese fans, but will also provide the league another opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of China.”
