NBA and ESL partner to create NBA 2K20 Global Championship

Following the 2017 establishment of the NBA 2K League, the National Basketball Association is now helping to create a new global esports competition based on the popular NBA 2K video game franchise.

The league, NBA 2K game developer Take-Two Interactive,  the National Basketball Players Association, and the Electronic Sports League have announced they are developing the new NBA 2K20 Global Championship.

The worldwide tournament will feature head-to-head competition in a series of online and offline events that will take place from October 2019 to February 2020 – which is the offseason for the NBA 2K League – with $145,000 in prize money.

Following online qualifying events in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions, there will be live-event regional finals at the ESL studios in Los Angeles, Paris and Sydney.

The eight-player Global Finals will be held on February 22, 2020, at the ESL studio in Los Angeles. The winner will receive $100,000.

Unlike the team-based NBA 2K League, the NBA 2K20 Global Championship is a single-player competition. Entrants must be 16 or over to take part.
