Magic and Raptors set for NBA Global Games clash in London

Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors will play a regular-season game at London’s O2 Arena on January 14 as the latest addition to the NBA basketball league’s Global Games 2015-16 line-up.

The game will mark the league’s sixth regular season outing in London. The Magic first visited the English capital for a pair of pre-season games in 1993. The Raptors played back-to-back games in London in 2011, marking the NBA’s first regular-season games in Europe.

NBA Global Games London will feature a variety of interactive fan activities organised by the NBA and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), which operates the O2 Arena, host venue for the game.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said: “This underscores our commitment to growing basketball in the region and to bringing more regular-season basketball to our fans in the UK.”

AEG Sports Europe senior vice-president Matthieu van Veen added: “We are very happy to be hosting an NBA regular-season game at The O2 for the sixth time. The annual NBA regular-season game at The O2 has successfully sold out since 2011 and has become a ‘can’t-miss’ event in the European sports calendar.”

Earlier this month, the NBA announced that Boston Celtics would travel to face Spanish side Real Madrid in pre-season as part of NBA Global Games. Alongside that October 8 fixture, the Celtics will play Italian club Olimpia Milano two days earlier and take a regular season fixture to Mexico City.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Clippers will play Charlotte Hornets in Shenzhen on October 11 and Shanghai on October 14, while Orlando Magic take on Brazilian club Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro on October 17.
