Electric vehicle company Fisker is in advanced talks to become the first manufacturer to enter the Extreme E global electric SUV racing competition, the series’ organisers have announced.
Fisker is poised to become a series partner of Extreme E, in a deal which would see it join as a commercial sponsor as well as the first vehicle manufacturer to enter its SUVs to compete in the championship.
Alejandro Agag, founder and chief executive of Extreme E, said: “We feel thrilled at the prospect of having Fisker Inc., a pure EV manufacturer, join Extreme E for the start of the first championship. Creating the world’s most sustainable racing series is the perfect launch platform for their new Ocean SUV as well as providing a challenging testing environment for product durability.”
The series, which launches in early 2021, aims to highlight the effects of man-made climate change on the global environment by racing in extreme locations around the world.
Fisker chairman and chief executive Henrik Fisker said that was a key factor in discussions, adding that “Extreme E and Fisker Inc are completely aligned in our missions and values.”
The five stages, each highlighting a different aspect of climate change, have been announced. Nepal is intended as the ‘mountain stage’, while Saudi Arabia will host the desert stage, Greenland the Arctic stage and Brazil the rainforest stage. The series will get underway with its coastal stage, hosted in Senegal.
