The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has approved the expansion of its Women’s World Cup to 16 teams, from the 2026 edition onwards.

The decision was made by Fiba’s Central Board as it gathered at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland for the first time since its inaugural meeting in September 2019. The Central Board had not been able to meet in person since then due to Covid-19.
