Ivo Ferriani has today (Wednesday) secured a third term as president of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) following a convincing victory over rival candidate Fritz Burkard.
The Italian official secured 38 of 43 votes at today’s IBSF Congress in Rome, with Switzerland’s Burkard, member of the Para-Sport-Committee of the IBSF and vice-president of the St. Moritz Bobsleigh Club, gaining five votes.
Ferriani (left in picture with International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach) was due to face two rival candidates at today’s vote, however Sarah Storey, president of Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, recently withdrew her bid for the position.
Ferriani, who has led the IBSF since 2010, will now serve a further four-year term at the helm. He became a new member of the IOC in August 2016.
Ferriani said after today’s election: “Now it’s time to go to work, continue projects, pursue new ideas and meet the challenges that lay ahead us to make our sport even better.
“Do not hesitate to raise your hand and tell us your needs as this federation is your federation. I look forward to slide into the future with you!”
