Ferriani to be challenged for IBSF presidency

Ivo Ferriani will face challenges for his presidency of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) from two rival candidates, the world governing body has confirmed.

The IBSF is due to hold elections for its Executive Committee at its 2018 Congress in the Italian capital, Rome, on June 27. Ferriani (pictured), who hails from Italy, stands for re-election for his third term.

The two other candidates are Sarah Storey, president of Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton; and the Swiss businessman Fritz Burkard, member of the IBSF Para Sport Committee and vice-president of the St. Moritz Bobsleigh Club.

Storey is the daughter of Ferriani’s predecessor as president, Bob Storey, and is also running for each of the six vice-president positions that are up for election.

Ferriani, who has led the IBSF since 2010, secured a further four-year term at the helm in June 2014 with an overwhelming majority. He became a new member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in August 2016.
