Subscription broadcaster beIN Sports has acquired rights to Europe’s Basketball Champions League in the US.
Coverage across the 2020-21 season is to be showcased on the broadcaster’s free beIN Sports Xtra English-language streaming channel. Spanish-language coverage will be available on the beIN Sports en Español channel.
The rights deal, which is the property’s first in North America since the competition launched in 2016, has been announced ahead of the start of the 2020-21 BCL season today (Tuesday).
Live and delayed rights to one regular-season per match week have been secured by beIN.
Antonio Briceño, beIN Sports’ managing director for North America, described the Fiba-backed European clubs competition as a “haven for American and Canadian athletes, many of whom are former NBA and NCAA players”.
Despite the lack of a North American broadcast deal in the past, US fans have been able to watch Basketball Champions League action on Fiba’s LiveBasketball.TV subscription OTT platform.
