Australian Open starts after challenging build-up

The first tennis Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open in Melbourne, has got underway after weeks of speculation and scrutiny over whether the organisers could pull it off successfully.

The event is getting underway three weeks later than usual, and after an eventful build-up that saw intense media and public focus on the tournament's Covid-19 safety measures and the responses of players to those measures, and featured a last-minute positive test scare.
