The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has announced that the 2019 edition of its men's Softball World Championship will take place in the Czech Republic cities of Prague and Havlickuv Brod, with the women's event being staged in Chiba, Japan.
The decision was made at the 27th WBSC Softball Congress, which took place in Oklahoma City, US, where it was also decided that Prince Albert in Canada will host the 2018 junior men’s event, while the 2019 junior women’s championship will take place in Irvine, California, US.
A WBSC spokesperson said: “A long-range strategic plan was presented and overwhelmingly supported. An implementation commission was appointed and will immediately start working on its execution. The four pillars of the plan include strengthening our organisation, developing our coaches and officials, improving our athletes, enhancing our events.”
The 2017 Softball Division Congress was awarded to Gaborone, Botswana, with the WBSC Softball board of directors to be “streamlined” from 22 to 13 members following the conclusion of the event.
Meanwhile, Tommy Velazquez, of Puerto Rico, was elected to become WBSC Softball’s second vice-president.
