UEFA HOLDS KEY MEETING WITH TOP FOOTBALL CLUBS

Europe’s top clubs have long urged the major leagues to demand a greater say in how UEFA and FIFA run their competitions and although threats of a breakaway and a separate European club competition have been played down, the EPFL is campaigning, on behalf of its leagues and clubs, for a much bigger say in how football is run at international level.

The EPFL represents 15 leagues (and some 600 clubs) across Europe, with further leagues set to join this year. Formed in 2004, it is chaired by Premier League chairman Sir David Richards.

The EPFL is reported to be asking for seats on both the UEFA and FIFA executive committees in order to ensure it has influence and representation in key decisions, a move that is likely to be opposed by those bodies.
