World governing body Fifa is to stage a major competition in Saudi Arabia for the first time after the Middle Eastern state was selected as the host of the 2023 Fifa Club World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from December 12 to 22.
The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the Fifa Council today (Tuesday) and follows the staging of the delayed 2022 event in the United Arab Emirates last week, when Real Madrid beat Saudi outfit Al Hilal in the final.
