The National Football League has expanded its sponsorship portfolio with a new deal with Align Technology inc. that designates the California-based medical device company’s Invisalign teeth aligning system as the league’s official clear aligner sponsor.
The league-level agreement will see the Invisalign brand promoted across the league’s official channels and in various youth-facing programs, and the affiliation will also be highlighted in doctors’ in-office marketing. Invisalign patients will additionally have access to official team-branded aligner cases.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“By teaming up with this leader in digital dentistry, our players and fans alike will have access to information and resources on how to connect with a doctor to discuss potential treatment options,” said Renie Anderson, NFL chief revenue officer and executive vice president of partnerships. “Plus, our fans in Invisalign clear aligner treatment can support their favorite team with special NFL club-branded aligner cases.”
The deal closely follows a separate one the NFL struck with sandwich chain Subway.
Align Technology already holds team-level NFL partnerships with 11 individual clubs, including prominent franchises such as the Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl LIV participants the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
The company also has struck sponsorships with several teams in other major US pro sports, including the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors and National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes as it has pursued over the past year a more ambitious sports marketing strategy to build awareness for the Invisalign brand.
“Together with the NFL, we look forward to creating new experiences that expand recognition of in-office, doctor-delivered clear aligner treatment that can help transform smiles and change lives,” said Frank Quinn, Align Technology vice president and US general manager.
