MLS adds Skills Challenge to All-Star Game festivities

Major League Soccer is looking to liven up its All-Star Game festivities later this month in Orlando, Florida, by adding a Skills Challenge.

Players from both the MLS All-Star team and opponents Atlético Madrid – including Wayne Rooney, Nani, and Carlos Vela – will take part in shooting, touch and volley, and passing drills July 30 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

The event will be streamed on a number of platforms including MLSsoccer.com and the MLS mobile app, as well as in English, Spanish and French on ESPN, Fox, and Univision’s digital platforms in the US and over 170 countries worldwide. Live streams on Twitch and Twitter will include interactive elements, such as fan votes.

The addition of the Skills Challenge mirrors similar showcases held annually around the All-Star Games for many other major US sports leagues.

The Skills Challenge, which carries a presenting sponsorship from Target, takes place immediately after the MLS Homegrown Game for rising stars. On Location Experiences is handling premium ticket sales for the event, including on-field access after the game, premium hospitality, and meet-and-greets with MLS stars.

The MLS All-Stars will take on Atlético Madrid at Orlando City’s Exploria Stadium on July 31.
