LaLiga threatens Fifa with legal action over competition expansion plans

Fifa president GIanni Infantino presents the World Cup to Argentina captain Lionel Messi

LaLiga, the organising body of the top two tiers of Spanish football, is considering legal action against Fifa over the world governing body’s plans to expand the Club World Cup and revise the format of the next men's World Cup in North America in 2026.

In a statement, LaLiga criticised Fifa for "decisions made unilaterally" that "irreversibly damage the entire football ecosystem". It said it will "explore legal actions to prevent the Club World Cup with the announced format".
