The South African city of Durban has defeated a rival bid from Düsseldorf, Germany, to land hosting rights to the International Table Tennis Federation’s 2023 World Championships Finals.
The ITTF’s annual general meeting yesterday (Monday) saw member associations vote 90-39 in favour of Durban’s bid, meaning that the federation’s most prestigious event will be held in South Africa for the first time, having last set foot in Africa for its 1939 edition in Cairo, Egypt.
