Video gaming brand EA Sports has signed a global partnership with multi-club owner City Football Group to become the Official Gaming Partner of Manchester City, New York City and Melbourne City.
All three of the clubs’ men’s and women’s teams will be fully represented in the upcoming Fifa 20 game. The clubs will also develop unique content and fan engagement programmes with EA Sports.
Significantly, Manchester City will launch a monthly lifestyle gaming show focusing on the latest trends in football and gaming. The show will be created by City TV, the club’s official video channel.
Daniel Willoughby, senior vice-president of partnerships at City Football Group said: “We know that playing EA Sports’ Fifa entices gamers to become lifelong football supporters so having all three clubs represented in Fifa 20 provides us with a unique opportunity.
“Our presence in esports has grown significantly over the past three years with each club having a selection of esports players, an exciting content strategy in place and hosting a series of events including tournaments for fans to participate in.”
According to SportBusiness research, the EA Sports Fifa franchise had 45 million unique players in 2018, while rival Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series had an estimated five million.
