The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it has registered an appeal from the Russian Football Union (RFU) over its ban from Uefa and Fifa competitions, while Fifa has confirmed that Poland has received a bye to the next round of World Cup qualifiers following Russia’s suspension.
Fifa and Uefa last week banned all Russian teams from competing in their competitions following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. The decision eliminated Russia from qualifying for this year’s World Cup in Qatar, while its women’s team has been barred from this summer’s European Championship in England and Spartak Moscow has been expelled from the Europa League.
