Russia is set to submit a bid for the 2023 edition of the European Games multi-sport event, with Kazan being lined up as a host city

Stanislav Pozdnyakov has today (Tuesday) pledged to return Russia to full competition after being elected as the new president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has today (Thursday) said it has paid in full a demand for $15m (€12.1m) made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as speculation mounts that the country’s athletes may be able to march behind the Russian flag at the closing ceremony for the ongoing winter Olympic Games.

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has announced a 169-strong team for the 2018 winter Olympic Games, but has admitted the list could be reduced amid the possibility of further sanctions due to the country’s doping scandal and athletes potentially choosing to boycott the Games as a gesture of “solidarity”.

Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov has revealed that there are no plans to introduce extra security measures in Sochi for the 2014 winter Olympic Games despite apparent terrorist attacks in Volgograd over recent days.

The mayor of Russian city Kazan will hold an opinion poll to help decide whether the city should bid for the 2024 summer Olympics.
