Norwegian transport operator Vy has signed on as the main sponsor of Ski Tour 2020, a new venture for the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup that groups together events in Norway and Sweden.
Ski Tour 2020 is organised by the Swedish and Norwegian national ski associations via the company Tour 2020 AB, and will run from February 15-23 as part of the 2019-20 World Cup calendar.
Organisers are seeking to change the classic tour format, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly aspects. Additionally, for the first time ever in the history of FIS Cross-Country, a World Cup race will cross international borders as the fourth stage of Ski Tour 2020 goes from Storlien in Sweden to Meråker in Norway.
In full, the 2020 Tour includes stages in Storlien, as well as fellow Swedish venues Östersund and Åre; along with Meråker and Trondheim in Norway.
As main sponsor, Vy will provide transportation options, with athletes to be offered train travel between the different race locations on the tour. Ola Strömberg, Tour 2020 AB chairman and secretary general of the Swedish Ski Association, said: “The tour presents new elements in cross-country skiing, such as sprinting uphill in an alpine skiing arena and a race that will cross the border between Sweden and Norway.
“Quality in sports is central of course, but it is also important for us to challenge the way we organise ski races. With Vy as main partner, we will guarantee climate friendly transportation for all athletes. We are proud of that.”
