Vince McMahon has retired from his role as World Wrestling Entertainment chairman and chief executive amid an internal investigation into an alleged hush money deal in which he reportedly paid $3m (€2.85m) to cover up an affair with a former employee.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that McMahon agreed to pay the settlement to a departing employee, who was initially hired in 2019 as a paralegal. That agreement was said to prevent the unnamed employee from “discussing her relationship with Mr. McMahon or disparaging him.”
