English Premiership rugby union side Bristol Bears has signed a kit supply contract with UK-based sportswear brand Umbro.
The long-term deal will come into effect on July 1 and means that local firm Bristol Sport will depart the role of the team’s kit supplier.
Umbro will now provide all match-day, training and off-field wear for the club.
The deal builds further on Umbro’s entry into the rugby union market, with the company having recently signed a four-year contract to take over from Umbro as kit supplier to the England rugby teams.
Sam Lucas, head of sponsorship at Umbro UK, said: “We have stated our intention to credibly support rugby through our partnership with England Rugby. Joining forces with Bristol Bears; an exciting club, on a journey to great things, complements this on a domestic and regional level.”
Bristol rebranded to incorporate the ‘Bears’ as part of its name following promotion to the Premiership in 2018.
The club’s director Jon Landsdown said: “We are very proud of the kits that Bristol Sport have produced, over the past six years. Since the Bears rebrand, the innovation shown in designing and creating the team’s jerseys has led to record sales.
“It was important for us to maintain that individual appeal, but also to push on to the next level, which is why the partnership with a globally recognisable brand like Umbro is a great fit.”
