The Swiss Handball Federation (SHV) has reported revenues of CHF7.66m (€7m/$7.7m) for the 2018-19 period, including CHF889,300 generated from the sale of sponsorship rights.
The sponsorship revenue figure represents a marked rise on the CHF708,500 generated during the 2017-18 period.
Properties overseen by the SHV include the Swiss Handball League and the Spar Premier League, the top-tier men’s and women’s handball divisions, respectively.
A further CHF609,700 was raised by the commercial department through ‘services offered in exchange’, although there was no television or radio rights revenue in 2018-19 (compared to CHF21,300 in 2017-18).
The majority of the SHV’s sponsorship contracts have been extended for three or four years, including the agreement with the supermarket Spar, the presenting sponsor of the women’s national teams as well as the women’s league title sponsor. German sportswear firm Erima has renewed as the Swiss national teams’ official kit supplier and ball sponsor until June 2023.
The SHV’s other sponsors include Die Mobiliar, the Swiss insurance firm and presenting sponsor of the men’s national teams, along with Ticketcorner, the Swiss ticketing company, and Concordia, the health insurance company.
The SHV is led by managing director Jürgen Krucker, the former head of IMG’s business in Switzerland.
An overall surplus of CHF72,000 was reported by the national association for 2018-19. Turnover of CHF7.8m and a CHF14,000 profit has been budgeted for the 2019-20 period.
