The Swedish Sports Federation has extended its association with state-owned gambling brand Svenska Spel.
The deal, which is worth SEK17m (€1.6m/$1.7m), will now extend until the end of 2020.
The two organisations have been working together since Svenska Spel joined the federation’s sponsorship portfolio in 2017.
President and chief executive of Svenska Spel, Patrick Hofbauer, indicated the discussions were already underway for the contract to be extended further in the future. He said: ”Work is underway on a more long-term plan for how we together can continue to strengthen the sports movement.”
A contribution to the federation’s campaign to encourage an active lifestyle in the country is one focus of the agreement.
There is also an onus on combating match fixing, with the brand financing a full-time service which works on its prevention. The pair also run a joint-service which allows information on match-fixing to be submitted anonymously.
Svenska Spel and the Swedish Sports Federation will also continue to award the ‘Elite Sports Scholarship’ with the aim of facilitating athletes to combine elite sports with post-secondary studies. The scholarship is SEK50,000 per fellow and is awarded annually to around 75 athletes each year.
The brand has an extensive influence in Swedish Sport, having renewed and expanded its main sponsor contract with the Swedish Football Association in February 2020, adding a focus on the Swedish Cup to the deal.
