Sochi awarded 2017 Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Championships

Sochi, the Russian hosts of next year's winter Olympics, has been awarded the hosting rights for the Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Championships in 2017.

The decision was made by the FIBT (International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation) at its 84th congress in Gdynia, Poland.

Sochi beat off competition from Altenberg (Germany), Lake Placid (USA) and Whistler (Canada).

The 2017 event will be held at the Sanki Sliding Centre, the new facility 60-kilometres north-east of Sochi and built for the 2014 Olympics.
