The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host of the 2027 Asian Cup at its 33rd Congress in Manama, Bahrain today (Wednesday), while Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa was re-elected as AFC president and Saudi Arabia’s Yasser Al Misehal was elected to the Fifa Council.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) was expected to secure hosting rights after the All India Football Federation dropped its bid in December as part of a strategic focus to develop the domestic game. The Saudi and Indian bids were shortlisted during an AFC Executive Committee meeting in October.
