Italian football club AS Roma has expanded its agreement with global airline Qatar Airways to include main sponsorship of its women’s team.
The brand has been the main sponsor of the men’s side since the start of the 2018-19 season and will now take up the same designation with its women’s squad for the 2020-21 season.
As with the men’s team, the deal will afford Qatar Airways front-of-shirt visibility on the women’s kit.
The initial three-year contract between the two organisations runs to the end of the 2020-21 season and is worth approximately €14m ($15.5m) per season, as detailed by SportBusiness Soccer.
Qatar Airways group chief executive Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are proud of our diverse portfolio of global sport sponsorships and are totally committed to supporting the women’s game, reflecting our belief in the power that sport has in bringing people together.”
The airline has developed its presence in football through sponsorship agreements with clubs including French champions Paris Saint-Germain, German side Bayern Munich and Argentina’s Boca Juniors.
Global automotive manufacturer Hyundai’s contract with Roma also extends to the women’s team, affording it the designation of back-of-shirt sponsor.
