Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has signed up multinational logistics company DP World as its latest sponsor.

The long-term contract was signed ahead of the 2020 IPL season, which begins on September 19.

The Dubai-brand will provide logistical services to RCB, a particularly important provision this year, with the IPL set to be held in the United Arab Emirates rather than India due to the Covid-19 pandemic. DP World will manage the delivery of training gear, as well as match kits from India to Dubai.

India is a key market for the brand where it handles a quarter of the country’s total container trade volumes.

It has a significant sponsorship presence in sport through its deal with the European Tour, which includes title sponsorship of the event which represents the climax of the tour’s season-ending ‘Race to Dubai’.

In March 2020, it also signed a title sponsorship deal with Renault’s Formula One team.

In the coming weeks, SportBusiness will be speaking to DP World to learn more about these sponsorships and how they are leveraged to meet the brand objectives.

RCB recently added esports and mobile gaming platform Mobile Premier League to its roster ahead of IPL 2020. In February 2020, the franchise also signed a three-year main sponsor contract with financial services company Muthoot Fincorp.
