The Board of Control for Cricket in India has cemented its financial dominance of global cricket after auctioning the media rights to the Indian Premier League for INR48,390 crore ($6.2bn/€5.9bn) over five years, from 2023 to 2027.
In the previous cycle, also for five years, pay-television broadcaster Star India paid INR16,347.5 crore for global rights. At the time, this was worth around $2.55bn but today is worth $2.1bn.
