The World Air Sports Federation (FAI) has appointed Markus Haggeney as acting secretary general following the departure of Susanne Schödel.

Haggeney had previously served as the FAI’s sports and events director and steps into a position that had been filled by Schödel since March 2014.

Before being employed at the FAI head office, Haggeney carried out extensive volunteer work for the CASI (FAI Air Sport General Commission), the CIA (FAI Ballooning Commission) and the German Ballooning Federation.

Schödel, who replaced Jean-Marc Badan as secretary general, came to the FAI having held several positions in non-profit making organisations. These included the role of executive director at the Susan G. Komen Society for the Cure of Breast Cancer. She also worked for several years at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Hessen, Germany.

FAI president Bob Henderson said: “Susanne Schödel has led the work of the FAI head office for almost six years and done her utmost to deliver outcomes that benefit the whole organisation. I wish her the very best for the future.

“I am grateful to Markus Haggeney for agreeing to take on this new challenge of acting secretary general, and I look forward to working with him in his new position. He has been working for FAI for almost six years and is up to speed with all the on-going projects and activities of the federation.”
