ESPN has best college football opening weekend since 2016

ESPN announced its most-watched kickoff weekend of college football since 2016 and second-best since 2009 after airing 17 games across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU.

Of the 17 ESPN games, 12 recorded more than a million viewers and nine had 2 million viewers or more, highlighted by Notre Dame vs Ohio State’s most-watched regular season game on ESPN networks since 2017 with 10.5 million viewers. The average, per-game viewership across Nielsen-measured networks during the Labor Day weekend was 2.9 million, while the combined audience across the primetime ABC and ESPN coverage on September 3 totaled 13.4 million.
