ESPN has expanded its media rights agreement in Australia with the NBA to add two live games per week that were previously on free-to-air public-service broadcaster SBS, starting from the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Pay-television broadcaster ESPN has thereby obtained exclusivity over NBA media rights in Australia, with the exception of the league’s direct-to-consumer service League Pass. ESPN is already the league’s main media rights partner in the market under a deal that is understood to mirror the two parties’ US rights deal, running from 2016-17 to 2024-25.
