The 2022 edition of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal will not take place until 2026 after a four-year postponement was agreed upon by the International Olympic Committee and the Senegalese authorities.

Announcing the decision today (Wednesday) after the IOC executive board meeting, president Thomas Bach said that hosting the Games in 2022 as scheduled would have meant “we would have had to master five Games in just three years and this was really too heavy a workload for everybody”.
