MLS franchise DC United has signed up Washington convention and sports specialists Events DC to a short-term sponsorship.
The brand will be afforded visibility on the back of the shorts of the club’s playing kit for the duration of the ‘MLS is Back’ tournament, which began on July 8.
The agreement builds on separate strategic work the two organisations have collaborated on.
In 2019, Events DC held the role of presenting sponsor for DC United’s friendly match against French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
In addition, the pair have joined forces to launch Washington DC’s bid to be a host city for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, which will be held in the US.
Events DC’s president and chief executive, Gregory A. O’Dell, said: “DC is a hotbed for soccer with a passionate fanbase and deep roots in soccer history. It is our hope that through our continued partnership and collaboration with DC United, we continue to find innovative ways to showcase our city as a premier soccer market and inspire more international soccer matches and future visitors back to Washington, when the time is right.”
DC United’s first match in the ‘MLS is Back’ tournament is on July 12, against Toronto FC.
The club’s kit sponsorship portfolio is headlined by the deal with front-of-shirt sponsor, scientific research company Leidos.
