China to stage first World Squash Championship

China will host its first World Squash Championship later this year with the World Squash Federation’s (WSF) women’s team event to be held in the city of Dalian.

The Women’s World Team Championship will take place at the Xigang Gymnasium from September 11-16, it was announced today (Friday).

The venue will feature three all-glass show courts, with arena seating and four permanent all-glass courts.

Confirmed entries so far include host nation China, Australia, Canada, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong China, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland and the USA.

“China is a member of the world squash family that is showing its maturity with this hosting,” WSF president Jacques Fontaine said. “There have been major international championships held on show courts in iconic settings such as the Bund in Shanghai and now women players from across the globe are excited about playing the World Team Championship in the city of Dalian.”

The Women’s World Team Championship takes place every two years and was most recently held in France in 2016, with Egypt defeating England in the final in Paris.
