TD Garden, the home of the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics and National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins, will host the Laver Cup tennis tournament from September 25-27, 2020.
The 19,600-venue is currently undergoing a $100m renovation by owner-operator Delaware North, which will include a new entrance, the expansion of fan concourses, and new locker rooms for home and away teams.
This year’s event – which was won by Team Europe with a 13-11 victory over Team World – was held in Geneva. Previous Laver Cup tournaments were held in Prague (2017) and Chicago (2018).
Tennis legends John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg will remain captains of Team World and Team Europe, respectively, in 2020.
In May, the three-day Laver Cup was made an official part of the annual ATP Tour calendar. The agreement grants the tournament access to ATP services such as marketing and social media, as well as operational personnel such as officials and trainers.
The last professional tennis tournament held in Boston was in 1999, when Marat Safin defeated Greg Rusedski for the MFS Pro Tennis Championships title.
