Professional esports organisation Misfits Gaming has hired Matt Bailey as its senior director of sponsorship sales and services.

Bailey will be based in London and represents the organisation’s first senior commercial hire in Europe. He will oversee Misfits Gaming’s global sales and partner relations.

Bailey joins the organisation having previously worked as chief commercial officer at UK-based agency InCrowd Sports, which focuses on fan engagement and technology. He also worked in a consulting role for the IMG agency, for whom he helped rights-holders and brands maximise their sponsorship revenues.

Bailey told the Esports Observer that he would look to add value to the experience of being a Misfits fan in his new role.

He added: “One of the biggest misconceptions about esports in traditional sport is still that esports is an emerging, nascent industry. The reality is that esports ‘arrived’ some time ago and I know that I have so much to learn from the many people that have been behind this phenomenon, especially at a leading esports organisation like Misfits.”

Bailey becomes the latest senior hire for Misfits Gaming in recent months, joining Greg Stangel as chief revenue officer and Lagen Nash as vice-president of partnerships.
