BACHER DELIVERS MESSAGE FROM MANDELA TO W.INDIES REBELS

“I go to England with a message from Nelson Mandela for the team and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) about the importance of this tour, a tour the president hopes will take place,” Bacher, managing director of the United Cricket Board of South Africa, said before leaving for London on Thursday.

Brian Lara and Carl Hooper were fired as captain and vice-captain by the WICB on Wednesday after their refusal to join the tour to South Africa because of a pay dispute.

Bacher did not divulge the contents of Mandela’s message but the president has always supported sport as a vehicle for the process of reconciliation in post-apartheid South Africa.
