Australian betting operator PointsBet continues US push as losses deepen

Melbourne-based betting company PointsBet said it would continue its efforts to expand in the US, as it reported ebitda losses of A$243.6m ($166m/€166m) for the year to end-June.

PointsBet launched in the US in 2019 and now operates in 10 states as well as Ontario in Canada. The company's revenue has grown strongly in recent years, but profits have been hit by heavy spending on marketing as it seeks to capitalise on the opportunity in the US, where sports betting is currently being legalised state-by-state.
