“There’s an instant response from chairmen which has been unusual in recent years,” Ferguson said, speaking at a dinner hosted by England’s League Managers association, as reported by Bloomberg. “We’ve got new owners from Americans, Chinese, Russians, different types of owners and how they achieved their money is not what football is used to. The sudden wealth means there’s the quick reaction to everything that happens on a football field.
“We’ve a new breed of chairman or a new owner; it’s not establishment we’ve got now.”
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp, also speaking at the event, echoed Ferguson’s comments.
“We’re going to end up with a league of billionaires, all winners in whatever they do in their life, all going to want to win,” said Redknapp. “We can’t all win. There’s going to be a champion; there’s going to be cup winners; there’s going to be Champions League teams. And the others won’t understand why they’re investing mega money when they come in and buy the club and they can’t win and be No. 1."
